Step by step to prepare your homemade aloe vera gel

Start by cutting off the lower part of the leaf then place the leaf upright in your sink to let the aloin flow out for a few minutes. It is a very irritating and poorly tolerated yellowish liquid. Cut the ends of the sheets in length and width then cut the sheet into sections. Peel each section and place the pulp in a blender. Mix the pulp thus obtained, it foams a little during the mixing. This is completely normal. Filter and store in an airtight jar in the fridge.

Storing homemade aloe vera gel

The gel will keep for 1 week in the refrigerator. For longer storage (4 weeks), add 20 drops of Cosgard preservative per 100ml of product. You can also freeze the freshly filtered gel in ice cube trays to use it at any time and keep it longer.

You can use the residue from the aloe vera leaves to make a face or body scrub!

How to use homemade aloe vera gel?

Aloe vera gel can be used for all hair types. Its strong moisturizing power gives shine, suppleness and softness to the hair. It can be applied as a mask to soothe itching and prevent dryness of the scalp. It can be used alone as a moisturizing mask or incorporated into a treatment as a moisturizing active ingredient or even add a dab of aloe vera gel to your conditioner. An exposure time of 30min for the moisturizing masks, to be done after the shampoo.

Aloe vera gel is applied to dry or wet hair as a leave-in styling agent (ex: gel, mousse...). Perfect for redefining curls or taming frizz. Do not hesitate to brush your hair after drying to eliminate the cardboard effect if there is or to scrunch with your fingers so as not to break the curls.

On the skin, we love its moisturizing, astringent and antioxidant properties. It is applied directly to the face as a serum without rinsing or by composing in your moisturizing mask (15min application). In after shave lotion (mixed with a few drops of sweet almond oil). You can also add it to your face cream recipe as a moisturizing active ingredient.
